which
were volunteer from the bird feeders are blooming, but the ones in the garden
are not even close. I think these ones are blooming as they are close to the
porch and can get more heat than what is available out in the garden. I have
millet growing under the bird feeders in my flower beds as well.
Last night, the 2 hens in the hen house pulled off a nest and there seems to be 3 new chicks. I am not sure what happened to the rest of the eggs. They started out with 12 and with the 3 eggs which did not hatch, that means 6 are missing. Mysterious...
The peas are ready to
pick and I think that is my chore for today after I take care of all the
animals and take "Blossom" for her morning walk. The fence to the
front pasture is not done yet, so I take
her
down on her halter and let her graze awhile. It is also teaching her to stay
halter broke and getting into the routine of being moved a couple times a day.
The pea row is about 40 feet long, so that is going to be alot of peas to pick and shell today and tomorrow and the next day. After I pick them, I will pull the vines and toss them in with the hogs who are sure to enjoy them.
Frankly I am disgusted with my garden this year. It is mainly due to the weather, but I am half tempted to just plant grains in it next year and give it a rest. Gambling.... it is always a gamble when you are farming, even if it is only a 3,500 sf garden.
