oad
trip!!! Granted it was not a slow leisurely drive or an exciting town we went
to, but it was out of our town... And anywhere other than here, was somewhere we
had not been in awhile. I think it was close to 12 hours of driving. Amy had an
appointment to go to there and so I accompanied her. We armed ourselves with
'road trip food' of organic carrots, organic bananas, homemade oat cakes and
then we got carried away when we went to Tim Horton's for coffee and peppermint
tea and got a 6 pack of donuts as it was cheaper than 4.
Kamloops is the name of
the town we traveled to and very much
south
of where we live. It is considered high desert, so it is very arid. The higher
mountains do have snow on them, but the main part where crops, ginseng
and people live was all free of snow. It was the first time I have walked on
grass since September. The grass felt funny under my feet. Everyone down there
is bundled up in jackets and complaining about
the cold weather. My friend and I laughed as we only had light sweaters on and
were toasty warm.
I have always been fascinated
by totem poles since I was very little.
I even carved a 2 figure pole from an old cedar fencepost when I was in the 4th
grade when I got back to Oregon from a vacation in Canada . Here is one totem
pole we came across today. On the back was a beaver about the second guy
from the top. I am not sure what the second guy down on the front is. Totem
poles are probably what started my interest in carving.
The other new thing I
saw today, is.. I did not realize we had badgers just south of us. I have never
seen a badger.
I have never recalled ever seeing that sign before, so next summer when we head south, I will keep an eye out for them.
All in all it was a very good trip, though not a 100% answer at the appointment on the main reason we went. There may be another road trip in the future?
