report day 15...
Last night when Amy left, she did not honk, which means the cow is down. When I talked to her via MSN last that night, she said "Daisy" was laying down and she got a good look at her and she was laying on this side of the round bale. She had only been up for 5 hours yesterday and it was horrible trying to get her up and she had been trying to get up during the day as her knee is bloody. I was going to treat it this morning when she was down again.
This morning my boyfriend was the first one out the door and he comes bouncing back in the door saying he was very happy with my cow this morning. He said she was still standing. I said "NO!! She was laying down last night!!!".. so that means she got up herself this morning! All by herself for the first time in 15 days. I am so happy.
Afternoon Update:
"Kid" and I
went to his 3-D Archery Shoot today and it was really cool..
... then we got home...
We had this cheesy gate
shutting system so the water trough could be on both sides of the fence for the
3 other bovines besides "Daisy".. who has been living in the front
yard for 2 weeks now. We knew it was cheesy, but we were thinking of the best
way to go about it to make it 'right. Well we did not get to it and as we look
out the window, we noted there were 2 extra cows in the front yard and they were
into
the hay..
Off we ran to get boots and coats and push them back into their pasture. Well
after a few "I don't want to go back in there's", and yelling that I
did not want "Daisy" to go out with them, "Daisy" got in the
deep snow, tripped and went down.. and I was actually thinking "Good.. she
will be stuck there for a bit while we get the other ones back in... and
"Daisy" springs back to her feet (this is the first official time we
saw her get up), she trips and goes down again in the soft now (remember it is
3-5 feet of snow)... we finally get the other rampant beefs back into the front
pasture and we shut the gate and locate the 3rd one, who had missed out on all
the excitement.
"Daisy" wants in with the other cows and we tell her no.. and then as
she is throwing herself against the barbwire fence to get in with them, we hurriedly
open the gate and she RUNS and GALLOPS through the gate, falls in the deep snow
again and leaps to her feet again.
The only thing we think that made such a difference between today and in the 14
days past is that when we lifted her yesterday, the straps which we use now to
lift her, were back just in front of her hips and
she did not gain her front feet. And since she was on the far side of the bale
and the tractor operator could not see her.. she was almost hanging upside down
on her nose when she did not regain her front
feet and after he finally saw us waving frantically, she was lowered to the
ground again. So we are wondering today if being in that upside down position
aligned something correctly in her back. I guess stranger things have happened.
