oday was a long day. I fed the cows, let the chickens out, helped my guy get the dog boxes off the truck and the 300 gallon water tank into the truck. The snow, in places where I fell through the snow crust, landed me right at my hips. I had to put my hands down and crawl out of the snow. Down in the driveway the snow is gone. Down below our mountain we see little snow and alot of grass emerging.

And then I was at the other place printing off homesteading magazines by 9:30am. I was still printing one issue out and collimating another set. I was fearful in getting the 2 sets mixed up, especially when we had to move ALL of them off the freezer in order for my "MIL" to get a loaf of bread out of the freezer. That was scary. I finally got done at 3:30pm and headed to the dump.

I am so glad that "Down to the Roots" is a earth friendly company. I finally took the garbage out of the office where the press is kept. I have actually been avoiding it for about a year.. (well, forgetting or my hands too full with cases of magazines, computers and scanners was probably the real issue). DTTR is eco-friendly! In one whole year, I took one black garbage bag out of the basement and 90% of that was recyclable. I was quite pleased.

The tweetie birds are back and I saw the first Canadian Goose today. My boyfriend thinks I was seeing things on the goose.. he is trying to convince me it was really a Robin. I am trying to tell him that I think I know the difference between a 30 pound goose and a 2 pound Robin.

I got home and finished folding and trimming magazines and then packing more to send out on Monday. I should have gotten a batch sent out last week, but alot of things happened to prevent me from printing up more of the Winter 2005 (Donkey) issue.

Another scary thing is walking down a slippery melting snow hill which is half glare ice, when I am coming back from the laying flock of chickens with your pockets full of 8-9 eggs. I always wonder if it happens that I fall.. do the dogs get eggs? Or do I make an omlette?

One of the projects in the upcoming Spring 2007 issue I was having a heyday with.. and used it too much and I have a HUGE blister on my left index finger. So I had to quit for a day. You will get to see the project soon and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Then.. I took some time for myself tonight as my back was really hurting from leaning, doing so much folding and stapling. (18 months ago-ish, I fractured my back and broke 4 ribs - I overdid it today) I drew a bath as we hauled water today and the well is filling again from the melt and I took a candlelit bath and took a movie on a portable DVD player and watched "French Kiss" until it was over. I am refreshed and smell like lavender essential oil and my back feels so much better.
