he
day started at a quarter to 6 am. The dogs were barking and barking weirdly and
I got up to see what the matter was. It looked like a backhoe and a few
other things at the gate, then I realized my boyfriend was home. I knew he had
to have been "mudded out". It happens alot this time of year just
before 'Break Up'. No one knows from day to day if anyone is working or not, but
you still have to get up and try at weird ugly hours. It is said it will be -6C
tonight, so he may get to go to work tomorrow.
But last night had a twist. We had freezing rain and snow. It was really loud on the tin roof as I was sleeping, but I thought it was normal rain. Guess not. The logging truck had to get parked at the gate as it was too slippery of snow and yet too muddy to get the rest of the way up the driveway. For some reason our calf decided to go AWOL and my guy had to 'cowboy' him back home with the logging truck. Swerving back and forth on the road and gently bumping him in the bum when he stopped moving. The calf got home. But that is what the dogs had been barking about. Then "Crystal" started whining that she was getting snowed on.
Then to top it off, the phone lines seem to be cut. Due to the time change, we will have to wait until later until we can visually see what it wrong with it outside. I know I paid the phone bill, so not sure what the deal is. Even when the power is out and lines take out trees.. we still have always had phones. So I cannot do any internet stuff until that is fixed. All this happened before 6 am. I am going to get the boys out the door and go back to bed until 8am. I presume the buses are running.

fter
it got light yesterday, we couldn't disconcern any problems with the phone
lines. We had to drive clear into my boyfriend's parent's home and make a few
phone calls. They were going to see if they could fix the phone lines remotely
and then if not, they will send a repairman out sometime tomorrow. It is nice
having a break from the computer, but also a pain in not being able to have
contact with people about the magazine or fill orders. As soon as an order comes
in, I like to make personal contact with people to make sure they are ordering
everything they wanted and their address is correct. I am surprised at how many
people do not change their home address on their PayPal accounts when they move.
It may snow again tonight. Yesterday morning, before the snow settled a bit with the sun's heat on it, we had close to 3" new snow.
When I went to Community Future's yesterday (the people who helped me get the printing press loan for "Down to the Roots"), they informed me that they gave my name to BC's Economic 'something-or-other' who will be calling me as "Down to the Roots" is one of CF's best success stories and they will be showcasing the magazine soon. I do not know alot about it yet, but once the phone works again and they phone, then I will have more details. We also have a trade show coming up in the next month which we are preparing for. I always like to go out into the public and talk to them. Even if they do not purchase anything, I always fall back onto my 4-H Leader, country fair and Expo tendency of always trying to educate people a little about something they did not know before. It is also nice meeting alot of people. Except maybe the 2 people who demanded I sell my beloved Willow Chair (see it on the Fall 2005 issue cover) at this event last year and did not understand it was not for sale. People say that everything is for sale for a price... they do not know me... I would not sell my willow chair nor my Ashford spinning wheel. My Louet S-15, I am not as fond of however. I am happy I have the same booth at the trade show as last year.
We also have a Seed Exchange next month. It is through Canada's Seeds of Diversity program and I will have many types of heirloom seeds there as well as promoting the magazine. I was sick as a dog for this event last year, so I am hoping to have a much better time this year as seed savings is one of my passions.
Thirteen eggs yesterday. I can start delivering eggs to those people who want them and I need to call J.W. as I have been busy enough I have not called anyone for awhile. So if you read this, let me know if you need eggs J. (Try e-mail? I will eventually get the message).
1pm Update:
We have phone service again. Apparently someone had illegally spliced the phone cord before we moved in and with the heavy wet snows, it finally stretched and frayed the lines way above the ground. A really nice Telus man came out to fix it for us. I was impressed with his telephone climbing ability.
I really loathe people who are so short-sighted and so self-centered that they cut off their noses to spite themselves.. But even more so, I loathe those people who sacrifice their children's noses because the parent is too self-centered to sacrifice their own nose.
