5:49am

Between dogs barking and the man snoring, it was a short-sleeped night. I gave up about 45 minutes ago, stocked the woodstove up a bit, yelled at the dog who was the culprit and laid on the sofa for a bit. Then the cats started playing, so here I am.

Last night we went to a birthday bonfire/BBQ/barn burning (really)  for a friend of my boyfriends. The only redeeming feature of the evening was an elderly gentleman who is a bushman/cowboy/who-knows and I got to hear a little cowboy poetry and singsong around the fire. A little risque', but good.

Amy and I cannot handle cigarette smoke at all, she will get sick for days, I get horrific headaches. And after a very inebriated lout tripped over the fire and put our marinated tenderloin steaks onto the ground and into the fire, we lost all interest in the outing. We headed to my house to work on the magazine, watch a movie, ate cheese and Rye bread, Bancock Curry soup and Braised Fennel with butter and breadcrumbs. A weird toss together dinner, but we were cold and hungry. Then I tossed soft mead on the woodstove. That always warms and cheers one up.

Before Amy and I went to meet my guy at the party, we went to do Amy's chores, breed a rabbit which missed (?) and cut soap that we made the other day. I love the smell of homemade soap. For some reason it always makes me hungry smelling it.

Evening Update:

Today was a play day. I went with my guy and his family snowmobiling today. It was a very nice day, not overcast, not too sunny where we were blinded from the snow coming back up off the snow.

We did a total of 52 miles. First thing off the bat, I found a momma and baby moose below me in the creek line. I wished I could have gotten them to move up 50 feet as I would have had a totally unobstructed view and picture of them. Moose are one of the animals I am most fascinated with and rarely get to see. Usually they run from me and do not stay still.

Picture Above: Momma moose on the left and baby moose calf on the right. They are only about 100-150 feet away from me. I could see them much better than what the picture looks like. I was talking to them and momma was flipping her mule-like ears back and forth.

I will not proclaim I am the best skidoo driver in the world. I have not been on one for about 2 years, since before my accident. There was not much powder and the road was rough and rutted, so I went pretty slow. Like my top speed on the road was about 30 mph. But when we got higher up into the mountains, we hit some powder, but not enough for the guys to really play in the way they wanted to. Lunch always tastes better out in the middle of nowhere and so did the borderline organic chocolate bars.

Picture above: This is rather a deceiving picture as this was taken from pretty far away. The snow is about 6 feet deep on top of the boulders. I always love looking at the layers. The pictures never do the justice of showing all the delicate shades of blues.

Picture Below: Overlooking where we just came from. 26-some miles back.
