gas prices here have made it up to $5.09 a gallon. That is too insane. I now
have a new plan, even though my truck gets nearly 400 miles to the tank. I am
going to get the horses feet done and I am going to get a pack saddle and I am
going to park my horses in the grocery store parking lot and go shopping and
pack the groceries home. It may take a couple hours longer than I think it
might, but I can always pack anything that needs to be cold in coolers. I have
done it with my sled dogs in the winter before.. why not horses in the summer?
Today was a short fencing day. We started at 7 am and Mary and I were done by noon as we had caught up to where my guy had left off on the pole cross bracing. I really do not feel like running a chain saw over my head.. you cannot blame me. We went out to find our horses in Mary's pastures and just as we found them, I found morels!!
There
were only a couple dozen of them, but it is early yet. My honey is having a feed
on them tonight. These and Shaggy Manes are two of his favorite mushrooms. In a
couple days we will go back out and see if there are some more. A friend of mine
is/was a professional mushroom hunter and he has promised to take me picking in
one of his favorite spots.
I would like to get a couple jars of dried mushrooms for the wintertime.

We hiked to to the back
of Mary's property to go see the beaver pond again and we decided not to
stay
long. This was a fair sized bear and it had not passed too long ago. I have not
seen our bears in a few days, but my honey has. He had a friend with him when
they saw "VW" near the fence and his friend said "That is a huge
bear!!!" I am being really careful with meat from the dogs. The BBQ is
always a worry, but so far they have stayed out of the immediate cabin yard. 7
dogs probably has something to do with that .
