November 14, 2007

t got down to -8.1C/ 17F last night. It is not that bad yet as I can still walk barefoot on the concrete on the front porch in bare feet and a Tshirt to grab some wood for the woodstove.

With the huge windstorms the other day, I unfortunately lost 10 turkeys last night. I don't know if they got chilled or died from pneumonia as turkeys can be prone to that. Or both. But it was very tragic whatever happened. Recently they had been allowed to run outside in pens. Just the turkeys, no chickens were affected. A couple of them were breathing funny and looked blueish. So they are now in with my chickens where it may be a little warmer. They seem to be doing great in there all together.

Besides fencing, two of my next projects is: to finish insulating the pumphouse and get the root cellar finished by chinking it.

There were alot of subscriptions which came in the last 2 days. A few of them were orders which are all of the back magazines plus the upcoming ones. It will take me a few days to get those packed up and into the mail, as I have to print more of the Winter 2005 issue as it is a popular one and gets out of stock quickly, and someone has borrowed my equipment for a few days to put the calendars together.

It is supposed to start snowing again tonight. The weatherman says he expects close to 5cm/2" of snow. It is nice that the ground is frozen, as I now can drive my truck to the back 40 to bring up more firewood to the woodshed. It is a fine line. Too warm and I can't get my truck out there at all; too much snow, then I have to use the dog team and cannot get the truck out there; not enough snow and I cannot run the dogs.
