October 13, 2007 - Saturday
arrived
at the ferry terminal at 4 am. It would be a couple hours before the ferry
started to run. There were two issues when I got there. One was a full bladder
and no place to go, the other was trying to get a catnap and ignore the bladder
and there seemed to be an inebriated loutish man, who was caterwauling and the
sound of him echoed off the rock walls surrounding the ferry terminal. No one
got any sleep and no one could seem to determine where he was located... which may
have been a good thing for that bloke.
The first thing I did when I got to my friend's home, was knock on the door, they let me in and I crawled into bed to sleep for a few hours.
One of the major things
on this island is hike the trails. So three of us (and a very nice dog), met up
fairly early and we 'did the lake' (the quotes will be explained on Friday's
entry). It was a nice Fall day and most pleasant for a hike. I have gone to this
lake before, but took the longer route the last time I visited. So much had
changed with the leaves since then. On this trail, you meet up with other people
and dogs, stop and pause/paws for a moment, depending on what species you are
and interact with the other individuals for a few minutes. Most of the permanent
residents of the island know each
other so stopping can be often.
I had forgotten how large that Pacific Bigleaf Maple leaves were. This is one whole leaf which I have my hand on.
