October 14, 2007 - Sunday

slept in late. I had been up for nearly 26 hours. I was going to go to another island without my truck to go see others I know, but by the time I woke up, I would not have been able to catch 2 BC Ferries, one of which is a 2 hour ride.

My friends on this island were excited that I missed the ferry though, as they belong to a D&D group. I have not played D&D for at least 20 years and frankly had not wanted to. But I was willing to play, as they made me a character. One of their players, Tess,  is out in camps for 6 weeks at a time and she was recently home, so they were excited to get back at it. With the gaming, they have a excellent brunch or dinner beforehand. Today was a brunch. French toast, bacon and fruit salad. There was a slight issue with the French toast. It had a peculiar interesting flavour, which I noted, I ought to know, but currently couldn't place. Then someone mentioned the mysterious ingredient. Garlic. Accidentally the garlic butter was used for cooking the French Toast. It was not nasty or anything, but definitely an interesting combination for French Toast. Duane felt horrible as he really is a good cook.

It is hard to start to play a new character, especially if everyone else has been at theirs awhile and in the middle of a game, which can go for weeks or even years. I had to play that my character had amnesia or something, as suddenly she just 'appeared'. I learned a bunch though. Things which actually had nothing to do with the game per se. This game is something which makes your mind start to work creatively again. Something which I did not realize had gone on hiatus in me. So it took some doing, but my brain started to slowly start to get more creative. I am surprised my companions did not kill my character off early on in the game, as due to me, she was stilted and had very little imagination or playing skills. I think this newly re-found creativity, will help me write even better for the magazine. This is my theory and I am sticking to it. I believe that the seven of us played for 5 hours.
