October 21, 2007 - Sunday

y last day here on the island. It was Tess's last day as well. Many of you think I am a tough person.. she floors me. She works in Nunavut. That is like up where the Inuit live, igloos and the whole works. She is a camp cook and first aid person for a mining camp. There are no trees where she stays and as there are no roads, she doesn't live in heavy duty insulated trailers like I know many of the camps to be... she lives in an insulated tent. Yes!!!! A tent as there are no roads to get any other type of housing in there!! For 6 weeks at a time she lives there, then she is out for 2 weeks and then back again. So we had another brunch and D&D game before she left as she is a major part of this game and they will not have another one until she is back.

But before that, we went for a walk. A much needed walk for my sore muscles. Thankfully there were no staircases or major hills on this one. Breakfast was decided on at the local cove coffeehouse and I ordered a bagel with smoked lox and a Chai tea. We continued on our walk to the bridge where I sat on a bench to eat my breakfast. WOW! That was the most loaded bagel I have ever seen. It was piled high with salmon, cream cheese, capers, red onion and freshly trimmed dill. I knew I would never luck out and have such a bagel again.

After eating and putting my garbage away, I fed small bits to a male swan. I have never really seen a swan up close before. He was rather large and looked like he could do some damage if he got too close, but it was fun to give him a little tidbit and I was a little concerned when he started to grab my jeans and toy with my boot laces.

Brunch was soon after at Duane's. 7 people were there to game. Brunch today was apple pancakes, bacon and fruit salad. Tess made a lovely hot drink.

Tess's Hot Cider

apple juice
fresh whole cranberries
sliced green skinned apples with skin
2 teabags of Bengel Spice

Simmer for awhile, remove the teabags if desired and then pour it out. Make sure to put alot of the fruit into each cup.

After brunch, we started to play again and B. told me to come over to her apartment after the gaming was done as she wanted to see me before I left. She has family not far from where I live and so I may also get her to come visit me in December when she comes up to visit her family. The reason I did not put her full name is I want to protect her privacy and this lovely thing she let me hold and take pictures of. I don't know how much it is worth or even care for that matter, but just to hold something this old (210 years old) in my hands was pretty special to me. I wonder how many people's pockets this coin has been in over the years and where all it has traveled.
