esterday
I spend what seemed like multiple hours at the post office mailing off all the
Fall
magazines. They switched which tags I had to use to mail with (again) (again)
(again) and now we are back to the green tags. So with the standing at the
counter and three of us putting on new green stickers, using a sharpie pen to
mark out all the stuff they didn't want on there, handwriting the return address
on a few of them as the lady in charge wanted to cover up all my return labels
and then we questioned why we couldn't put the green label down lower and then
she agreed... Getting the wrong postage for a couple of them that go to Europe
and Australia, carefully taking those off and putting the new ones on, writing
stuff on the green labels.. I was out of there about 4 pm. And they are
mailed.
The woodstove at night is a common occurrence again already. It seems like all the 'neighbor's" are of the same mind. It was -6C here the other day and last night it was down to -4C. My dried beans were so close and so far away... I have not even had the heart to look out there for the last week.
I have readers who are coming to visit the farm on Tuesday. They are bringing their muck boots!! I need to clean my house as those of you who have seen me when I am writing and getting the magazine out the door, I neglect the house. I used to worry about it as I sat in my chair and now I am like "I will deal with it when I can". Later today is when I will deal with it. I have been sending out a bunch of pdf sample magazines to people who are requesting them today. I finally had time to do some promotion late last night.
"Blossom" is growing, the hogs are getting larger and soon to be butchered. A hawk took out about half of my poultry flock and I do not have about half the birds I was hoping to butcher this autumn. All in all, it was not a good year for farming here. Too cold for the garden. But my greenhouse did quite well. The turkeys will need to be butchered soon. We have about 11 of them to go into the freezer. The baby heirloom turkeys are looking good. I will get pictures of them posted soon.
Afternoon Update:
"Blossom" doesn't seem to feel too good. I hope she did not get acidosis from grain overload. There was a little bit spilled the other day and she did have some, but I didn't think it was too much to worry about between her and the goat. I am not happy about this and there are no cattle vets up my way today. All I can do is feed her grass hay and cross my fingers.
2:19 pm Update
The first snow of the
season. The flakes were huge. It is was 2.2C outside when it started and it is
still
currently 1.2C 15 minutes later. Take a good look, we may not see green grass
tomorrow. I need to finish pulling in my soaker hoses tomorrow and get the
garden tilled under ASAP.
