"Sweet April showers
Do spring May flowers."
-   Thomas Tusser, A Hundred Good Points of Husbandry, 1557

ell, I don't know about the April showers, but it has been snowing out almost every day. About 5 hours of snow coming down yesterday, but none of it stuck. My driveway is turning into a quagmire however, which means Spring is indeed coming.

There is a second poem that I rather like:

"I think that no matter how old or infirm I may become, I will always plant a large garden in the spring.
Who can resist the feelings of hope and joy that one gets from participating in nature's rebirth?"
-   Edward Giobbi

I know I will be that person, even when I am 112 (which I decided on what age I was living to when I was in the 4th grade). I cannot resist planting, although I did pretty good and did not plant many of my seeds until now. One of my favorite springtime rituals is to start out my seeds and when the garden is ready to till, to take off my work boots and walk in the newly tilled soil. Yes, my feet get rather grubby, but you can just feel the energy springing forth from the newly turned soil. I did not get to do it last year and I was rather disappointed for not doing so.

I have had that icky flu for the last few days. Only yesterday was I able to take the day off. I wasn't going to, but I woke at 7 am, and at 9 am I went back to bed fully clothed and did not wake up until 1 pm and then had an accidental nap on the couch until 3 pm. I pretty much slept the day away wrapped in a blanket. Evidently I needed that.

This afternoon I felt 1,000 times better and did my housework and baked bread to take into work today as well as dozens of eggs for those who wanted them. After days of only eating pretty much nothing but frozen organic raspberries, homemade potato-leek soup and lots of juices, I am making those steamed pork buns for dinner tonight. They just sound good.
