August 6, 2008

arm weather finally. It feels good, but it is not like we were acclimated to it gradually. My watermelon in the greenhouse is softball size now. Ate the first of the tomatoes last night. There are a couple more on the brink of ripeness. Been eating lettuce, swiss chard, beet tops and turnips for weeks now. My oats are almost ready to start showing grain. The quinoa may make it to harvest even with the late planting.  All-in-all the garden is doing quite well with the low temps. I knew I wouldn't get any corn crop, but 'just in case', I try planting it out every year. You never know!

I watched the news on television last night. I know that doesn't sounds unusual, but it was actually odd for me as I have not actually watched a TV but twice in the last year. Just watch movies on my laptop.

Six more chicks hatched out while I was gone. I moved the 'teenager' ones into the main chicken house, where they seem to be not getting picked on much and installed the new ones into the brooder house.
