August 11, 2008
ince late last night to this morning it rained 0.6 centimeters.
It does not sound like a lot, other than our annual rainfall is normally 36
centimeters (snowfall is 166 cm for the
year however.)
I think the formula for
the Farmer's Almanac from the 1700's is messed up with global warming or
something. It says for my region...
"Summer
temperatures will be above normal, on average, with the hottest periods in late
June, mid-July, and early August. Rainfall will be below normal near the coast
and near normal in the interior. September and October will bring above-normal
temperatures and precipitation."
Last night the national weather service posted:
"This is a warning that
significant rainfall is expected or occurring in the region. Monitor weather
conditions. Listen for updated statements. A frontal band has stalled over the
northwestern portions of the central interior and will slowly drift east through
tonight. This system is forecast to give rain heavy at times to the above
regions. Further rainfall amounts of 25 to 50 mm are expected through tonight."
So it has been
rather soggy and cold the last few days. I have been so tempted to build a fire
in the woodstove. Instead I tossed on my dad's blue sweater and a fuzzy blanket
over my legs last night while I worked.
Amazingly enough the garden is still doing great. I cannot get into it much to weed the rows, although the walk areas are weed-free. As soon as I step into the garden, I am sinking up to mid calf or deeper.
