avender! How I love my lavender
plants. I planned ahead and layered one of my favorite lavender
plants
which over winters up here and potted some of one of my favorite plants up
in a pot for moving. I did not want to lose it in case renters ran over it or accidentally
pulled it up. I can take this plant and create even more plants from it. One day
I have wanted to make an old English knotgarden
and lavender
would be a perfect plant for it. Even if I never get to it (maybe when I
am an Old Old lady), it is a useful plant for my 'apothecary' for herbals.
I was surprised how much new growth the lavender it is putting on this time of the year even if it is a houseplant currently.
There are many poems and saying about lavender, a plant which was even used in medieval times.
"Here’s your sweet lavender
sixteen sprigs a penny
that you’ll find my ladies
will smell as sweet as any"
~ Lavender Sellers’s Cry, London England CA 1900
"We shall find a cleanly room lavender in the windows and twenty ballads stuck about the wall."
~ Izaak Walton The Compleat Angler 1653-55
And lavender, whose spikes of azure bloom shall be, ere-while, in arid bundles bound to lurk admist the labours of her loom, and crown her kerchiefs with mickle rare perfume."
~ William Shenstone The School Mistress 1742
I get 3/4 of the day free and devoted to magazine stuff!!! I am happy!!!
