December 21, 2008
appy Yule! The days are swinging back to longer daylight hours again. It
actually does not seem that long since Summer Solstice to Winter
Solstice. Time has been flying.
Our Yule is starting out
weird, but things could have been worse. When Bren got his work truck tires
changed over to the winter ones a week or so ago, the shop forgot to give him
back his lug nut lock wrench. He discovered this on the way down and quipped he
hoped we did not get a flat tire, as it would be impossible to change it without
a cutting torch. Guess what happened? We got air back into the tire and it held
for a day, but we do not want to chance it going though the mountain passes,
where there is no town/house for hours.
Bren is currently with the woman who owns the Hof (B&B) to see if he can find one of his bosses at church to borrow an air compressor to get the truck to somewhere besides the Hof. Needless to say it is probably going to be a long day, as we should have been at the worksite to touch up a few things, finish sanding a couple spots which had to dry overnight, pack up the tools & equipment and head north to home again. We are already an hour behind, but we are grateful it happened here instead of on the road. We lucked out.
Afternoon Update:
Well, we are still here in Whistler. We checked back into the Hof and the Bren is working on the door overlooking the balcony in the hof room we are staying in. The owner asked him to look at it, so now the door is half apart getting repaired. Apparently we are getting a free night stay for the service. Which is just as well as we did not want to go through the mountain passes at night, especially with all the recent snowfall.
While Bren was finishing up at the job, I had to take a jaunt down the road in the 7" of snow which fell overnight, to get the tire fixed. As I walked into the mechanics shoppe, a car hit a power pole and all the electric in the area went out. For hours.
Jenna the gal from the mechanics shoppe is from New Zealand. She and I had a lovely visit while freezing our bums off in the waiting room, while Ben somehow fixed the tire with no light, no electricity for compressors or anything else. Kuddos to you both!!! I am very happy to meet you Jenna and I hope you keep in touch!!
