we traveled from Point A to Point B yesterday afternoon, I met a wonderful
fellow alongside the road. My guy was driving, spied it first and told me to
quickly grab my camera. After I took the
picture,
we turned around, my guy dropped me off where the unusual and exciting car had
pulled over with his support crew.
Marcelo da Luz is from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and has spent his life savings, mortgaged his house twice and probably even picked up cans along side the road for years to build the Power of One Solar Car Project. Marcelo and his support crew man Ryu Tavo were awesome to talk with. Marcelo is driving this car from Toronto to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and then who knows!! They are traveling 10,000 miles in the car and are trying to set a record with it. These guys are more than happy to talk to schools or groups about the car, living green and about going out and living your dream, so if you have a group or want them at your kid's school, get ahold of the school and then contact them!
You might also want to help support them, by adopting a mile/kilometer. This car is amazing and it goes really really fast. Top speed is 120 mph, and it can go from zero to 96 mph in 6 seconds!!
I am trying to get ahold of the team again today to interview them properly for my work and the magazine. If I had felt better, I would have invited them to the house for dinner and to stay the night as they sleep in the support van. But I just could not do it from the lack of energy and I am mad about that as this was a wonderful opportunity to talk solar with someone who is doing his dream.
I even forgot to take a picture of Marcelo when he opened the car up and I was talking to him. I was just so amazed! Cross your fingers I can hook up with these two somehow today.
