October 13, 2008

ast night my guy and I went to a friend's house for Thanksgiving dinner. Maggie cooks the most magnificent meals ever to begin with, but she outshone herself with that one.

Today I am cooking Cornish Game Hens for the Canadian Thanksgiving dinner. The guys wanted something 'different', so I suggested the game hens. There will be 5-6 of us for dinner. Yams, wild rice mix, homemade stuffing from day-old breads, fresh homemade bread with real butter, broccoli salad, organic mixed salad with organic dressings and I think I will make an apple and a pumpkin pie. I am actually reknown for my crusts.

Afternoon Update while everything is cooking:

I wanted something fun and warm for today since it is so gloomy. I do not drink alcohol so I made Tess's Hot Cider, but doubled the recipe. I did not have room on the stove or container-wise, so I dumped everything into a gallon glass jar with a lid until I was ready to heat.  it. I actually did not get to make pies as my guy bought a pumpkin pie and a strawberry cheesecake. He knew I would love the cheesecake. He loves his cheeses, so he bought 5 kinds along with lox and some other things for snackies before dinner.

Tess's Hot Cider

Apple juice
fresh whole cranberries
Sliced green skinned apples with skin
2 teabags of Bengel Spice

Simmer for awhile, remove the teabags if desired and then pour it out. Make sure to put alot of the fruit into each cup.

I get the advantage of having 2 Thanksgivings a year. I celebrate the American one as well as the Canadian one *wink*.
