October 18, 2008
y birthday yesterday was quiet, but it was so nice just to sit and watch movies.
Today, we were very productive.
Bren
(we decided we needed to call him something besides "my guy") finished
the cage for his bunny. 'Lilly' has been in the house, clanking things around at
about 4 am and waking the household up every night since he found her, so now
she has her own home.
He also got underway on making a new bathroom. When it was decided I was moving in until we built out on the new property, he got a brand new fridge and stove/oven and now he decided he needed a better bathroom for the house. The other day he got the new stacking washer/dryer in.
The
current bathroom which he has been putting up with for the last 5 years, is
about the size of
airliner's bathroom and you cannot even turn around in it. And the bathtub is
the smallest model ever made I think. The bathroom is so small you actually have
to stand in the bathtub to get dressed after a shower.
So today he purchased a new sink, soaker bathtub and eco-friendly low water usage toilet and got underway of building a new one. He is also building an all tile shower.
He
started to tear the house apart where the new bathroom will go. Then
we made a map on graph
paper with the paper
fixture
pieces on it to see what was the
best
layout which was
pretty fun.
We also went
window shopping for tile, checked out the cork flooring,
the heated floor stuff and
othe
r things. Then he had to do alot of measuring to
see how deep the deck needs to be as the tub is a 'drop in'. He will be doing
the whole bath in tile and told me he would teach me anything I wanted to know
while we
were building it. Before he became a woodworker, he built marvelous
bathrooms. I actually learned alot in one afternoon. It will be great to learn
from him as I have not built a bathroom before and I like working in tile.
But later tonight, I have to work for the paper. Until a new editor is trained, I have volunteered to continue to work 2 days a week to make sure it keeps getting out. Currently dinner is gnocchi which is an Italian potato dumpling and tried the dubious, but good Japanese condiment Furikake on it with excellent results. Nothing like an international menu.
