ast weekend was the start of me moving to my winter digs as a friend had the
large moving truck we could use, so he came up for the weekend since he had a
couple free days and has the driver's license to drive it. Who better to drive
it than someone who hauls glass for a living? It was an interesting weekend to
say the least. I also had to work Sunday, so when we got done unloading the
trucks into storage at 5pm Sunday night, I ate dinner and then I got to go to
work at 6:30 pm and worked until 4:40 am and then back up at 6:30 am Monday to
work until 5 pm. I am glad there are only a few more (2) weeks like this and
then I only have to work 4 days a week, so I know I will feel like I am
slacking. I had maybe 6 hours of sleep in 2 days. Bren wanted to sleep out under
the stars by the bonfire as he has never seen the Milky Way so beautiful before
and I told him it was due to not having any light pollution. I thought for sure
he would bail back into the house about 1-2 am, but he stayed out all night even
at -6C/21F. I was hoping we would see the Northern Lights as he has never seen
them, but no luck that night. My other friends decided that they would be
'normal' people and sleep in the house.
Various friends and neighbors came over to visit before I left when they caught wind that I was packing. They said they will miss me and I said that now that I will not be working crazy hours, perhaps I will have more time to visit with them when I am in those parts again. I will miss them too, but there is always the phone and email. You always know who your true friends are when they continue to keep contact with you for over a year and understand why you have not reciprocated when you have been so busy keeping your head above water or have to talk to them while in the bathtub.... And who bring things like milk in the early days when you could not afford any.
.....
Moving into a house with three people which is slightly smaller than my house on the farm is a interesting puzzle. I have lived in 280 square feet before with another person, so it is not that bad. The trick is to bring what I will need for the winter and pack the rest of the stuff away, what magazine supplies I need to have here, which I can store where I can get to them, things which cannot get misplaced or packed under lots of other things. Such as the card catalog with all the subscribers addresses. I was terrified of that!! Bren will teach me how to put them into a computer thingy so I do not have to spend 6 hours hand addressing them.
I am enjoying being with people again, not that I was lonely on the farm. I am now here frequently enough to find that I really missed cooking for others. I found that I can 'trade' rolling up the cord on the vacuum cleaner when I am done with it, for someone to start to learn to turn off lights when they are no longer in the room. I have permission to start building raised beds for a garden here. They have promised to keep the empty beverage bottles OFF the counters and coffee table. I think we are blending pretty well.
