I
get the keys for it in 8-9 days. I am not sure when they started the 10
day countdown. I will find out more today, sign papers etc. I let you guys know
about 30 minutes after I found out.
It is a turn of the century historic house which is 4 bedrooms/2 baths and an
office. One of the bathrooms has a clawfoot tub. At my previous farm in Oregon,
I had one of those and it was pretty sweet. Thankfully this one is not Pepto
Bismol pink like the last one *L*
It has a large newer woodstove and some lead glass windows and doors. The only
reason I could afford this is someone started reno's on it and evidently did not
make payments, so it was a repo. I was not the high bidder, but I could close
the fastest, so the bank took my offer. This was the 4th house I had actually
offered on. I am glad the other ones did not go through. I would have put up
with the others, but this one fits the bill and will feel like home. I have been
basically living out of a backpack since July. I am not kidding. It will be nice
to get the baby's room done up.
I plan to move in sometime in January, but first I have to rip out carpets. Either someone butchered chickens in the master bedroom or tore apart a big
block Chev? I probably DO NOT want to know!!) Remove the lino in the kitchen and
put down something else. Oh yes, you will be seeing the before, during and after
on the blogs I am sure.
The resident skunk is being removed from under the house, which rather smelled
up the kitchen and laundry rooms. No, I am not kidding.
It has a floor to ceiling pantry and a fully set up room which was an office for
someone, which will work wonderfully as an office for DTTR and the press!! The
whole house has high ceilings.
There are apple and cherry trees, a rosemary bush and I don't know what all else
yet besides Vinca Major. And a huge covered front porch.
Most of the rooms need painting, except the livingroom which is a nice cheery
yellow. The shower stall in the one bathroom needs to be replaced and the only
thing which annoys me at this point is the bathroom ceiling fan in there. All
the windows in the livingroom have been replaced with double hung insulated
windows. Eventually over time, I will replace the others.
There is a insulated dog mansion for "Cyrus" if he has to stay outside for some
reason. It is big enough to also be a room and I can easily stand in it. There
are 2 chain link runs from it.
The garden is fenced in and has some raised beds. There is also a woodshed to
hold a whole winter's supply. The garage needs to be torn down and redone (it is
roofless and I did not go into the structure as I had a concern for my life),
but there is a nice breezeway from the garage to the kitchen door.
The roof is a total re-do. It has 3 layers of shingles. But in doing it
ourselves (my mom's significant other is a contractor and my friend said he
would come down to help -- as they said I could not go on the roof -- but I bet
I will anyway *wink*) and with the equipment we have to use, including safety
harnesses.. it should go pretty well. (If I just did not jinx us). There are
many salvage building material places, so I am hoping to get wood flooring of
some kind and put it in the livingroom and kitchen/pantry areas. Maybe in the
office as well, but I cannot remember what kind of flooring was in there.
The town is a lovely and quaint old farming community and looks to be my kind of
people. It has many parks and a awesome looking library, although I have not
been inside it yet. There is a local farmers market and I don't know what all
else, but it will be fun to explore it all with SweetPea.
