M y friend who is visiting asked if I would put this on my blog since I had over a million visitors to it last year (I am not sure what this years count is at the moment). Colleen met one of the women who put out this cookbook and it is one of her causes and for today at least, it is mine as well. She has bought one of their cookbooks (there are three volumes now) and I am probably going to purchase one as well.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead

Margaret Mead’s words ring true when it comes to the collaboration of the 10 “Breastfriends.” The friends created the first “For the Breasts of Friends” cookbook to raise funds for the fight against Breast Cancer and the book became a national bestseller in less than 3 months.

Their cookbooks are truly comprehensive, each with over 400 uncomplicated, certain to please recipes, from delectable roasts, casseroles and well known family favorite entrees to comforting soups and scrumptious desserts. This versatile cookbook also contains cancer information from authorized sources, some thought-provoking, reflective quotes and some humorous quips that allow us to get a glimpse of the enthusiasm, dedication and the life breathed into this remarkable project by these women.

Net profits from each book are donated to help fund breast cancer , and now any type of cancer, research.

The group makes every effort to make donations in areas where books are sold.

Check out their website and think about getting a cookbook for gifts for the holiday, for someone you know affected by cancer or just for yourself.

Funds from the sales of the books go to the Breast Assessment Centres for diagnostics and treatment, to action groups and hope centres that support and educate newly diagnosed women and their families.

They supply funds to shuttle services that take women to treatment centres from the hospices and have purchased chemotherapy infusion pumps enabling women to receive treatment closer to home.

They have purchased education kits that circulate to schools and health districts teaching young girls how to do breast self exams and have supplied new beds for a Cancer Lodge in need.

Contributions have been made toward a mobile mammogram machine that will service women in far northern communities and they have donated $30,000 toward  digital mammography in the province. The sales of the cookbooks have generated over $1,001,336 dollars in donations!

Why is that part of the blog done in pink? The pink ribbon is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness. I know a particular person who had breast cancer and survived. This wonderful lady has a very bright pink streak in her hair all the time. The reason she keeps the pink streak is so that people ask her about it all the time, so she then can bring Breast Cancer Awareness to more people and probably save more lives. Kudos to you Starla!! This blog is dedicated to you and the other 2½ million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

Due to people like these who bring awareness to other women, breast cancer death rates have been going down.
