1st February 2010
The move was accomplished on Saturday in 12 hours, with 7 people, a U-Haul, 3 pickups and a stock trailer. In the rain. Yesterday consisted of trying to find the kitchen. Today is the rest of the living room, and then the office tomorrow or the next day. The office is stacked halfway to the ceiling. Those are the 3 priorities. I would have said the office was the second priority, but I needed space somewhere to sort out the office.
"B" and her husband "G", Angelia and her hubby "J" were phenomenal in the whole moving process. I do not think we could have done what we did without "J".
Before the first load was brought in, there was a bottle of wine and a nice card from my neighbors welcoming me and wishing us a happy move. That was so sweet of them. I am gonna love it here. Actually I already do.
"B" & "G" are getting me a load of firewood as a housewarming gift, which I think it quite lovely of them as well as working into their constant punning.
Afternoon Update:
SweetPea and I took a short hike for about an hour this morning as "Cyrus" needed to stretch his legs and I needed to be able to move. I want to try to walk for an hour or so each morning to get back into shape and learn about my area. On the way we followed the creek and found the remains of an old flour mill. There used to be so many grain mills along many many creeks in Oregon. Now that electricity is available, most are now along major railroad tracks and the old mills are now in ruins. All that remains of this one are the footings and a bit more.
As it is 3 pm, I am taking the rest of the day 'off' as I am sore and bruised, even though I have a huge mess to sort out. I can see the kitchen now, most of the front room, my room and the baby's room. The office is currently a shambles as with it raining, we started to dump everything in there to keep mud off the carpet and it was the closest room to an exterior door that was not already filled. But I have to get the front room finished before I can tackle the office as it is like that picture puzzle game where you have to slide one square one direction to move another in a different direction.
Today SweetPea and I went grocery shopping as I was very hungry and all there was is leftover pizza from moving day. The fridge is now full of fruit, vegetables, milk, cheese. I am making potato and cheese soup for dinner tonight. I also picked up peat pots and potting soil so I can get some of my vegetable plants started. Mom had a Dutch Iris blooming at her house so spring must be here.
Later this week I have a potluck dinner with a group of people at the local agricultural monthly meeting. They are a local group who share a common interest in sustainability issues, local food and responsible agriculture, community education, etc. They are interested in what I do and my seed bag.
