Got more things put away. It is pouring down rain so I can't drop everything on the lawn as I was planning on to sort is out as it would be easier than carting all of it to the front room of the house just to cart it all back in there again. I am at the point of I cannot put anything else away until stuff is moved and it has to go totally out of the office for me to do that. The next nice day I am going to do that so I can get the potting shed and the office DONE! I am 6-7 days behind schedule on that.

Been on the run all morning.. after I got 2 more huge totes unpacked and put away, I got my pantry on order and then put the broken down cardboard into my recycling bin. The other day the garbage service dropped four containers off at my home and never having had a garbage service in my adult life before, i had to sit and think about what went where since they did not come with instructions. I ordered a SMALL garbage can, so I figured out that is the grey one, the blue one is HUGE and it is for recycling, the green one is for yard debris and compostable items (including pizza boxes I later found out!) and the little red one for batteries, cooking oil etc. For fun and 'cause I can, I am going to try to weigh my garbage and recycling each week and try to make it a personal goal to reduce my landfill garbage each week. At this point I have less than a plastic grocery bag for the week, and that does include a couple disposable diapers.

I put in for a composter on FreeCycle and I found a man who is willing to give me one. It is a it of a drive but worth it. When the local pro-composting yearly event happens, I will pick up another composter. They are usually around $100, ut once a year they have them for $25 to get more people to compost. With this program, they are keeping 43% more stuff out of the landfills which can be composted instead. I think I have that stat right, but I skimmed reading it the other day.

I decided it was time to start SweetPea on some solid food. So we went to the store this afternoon to get her some.

No artificial flavors, colors, preservatives.
No modified food starch.
Kosher certified

She was not as messy with it as I thought and she seemed to like it.

Why did I choose to feed SweetPea organic rice cereal?

Non-organic baby food may contain Genetically Engineered Ingredients in their corn, soybeans, tomatoes, squash, potatoes, canola and other crops. Genetic engineering takes genes from plants, animals or viruses and inserts them in another to reproduce certain characteristics. So your tomato could have peanut genes (and associated allergic reactions) if you ate a tomato which had it in it.

Risk associated with Genetically Engineered Ingredients:

  • May lead to food allergies
  • Antibiotic resistance
  • Presence of animal genes in fruits and vegetables
  • Disrupt ecosystems
  • Currently there are no regulations that require companies to label GEI-products.

Plus, this company has it's baby food in glass jars and metal lids which can be reused or recycled. The competition is in 100% plastic.
