My friend "B" started talking rabbits at me the other day. I need to get ahold of my friend (who is a well known west coast ARBA judge, as well as a good breeder of quite a few breeds of rabbits) to see if I can get a trio of Californians from him for us. I know he has good quality stock and won't charge me an arm and a leg (and that they will reproduce when old enough). I was going to wait until more time had passed, like when SweetPea could have a little blue Dutch or a black Himalayan as a pet, but it is something for meat I can raise here at home.
"B",
"T" and I are also going to be talking chickens and larger livestock in the next
week. I can keep some here, and "T" has plenty of room for alot of
livestock as well as her 8 or so horses.
We want a dual purpose chicken, and do not want to have the (too) fast growing Cornish Crosses. It just cannot be good to raise an animal that is in pain, can't walk even if it's final destination is the freezer. I cannot do that and it MUST show up in a poorer quality meat. These Cornish Crosses actually break their bones (or have heart attacks) often due to the rapid weight gain and the lack of a decent skeletal structure. Yikes!
I have my preferences of what breed/s I would like, but it will be up to the other two individuals as well. We can also have turkeys there too, something which I cannot have here at this time.
It is back to raining again, but said to clear up in the next day or two.
This morning I called ONE
CALL
to have them check for utilities
before I start to till my garden as it is the law before you dig. Many people do
not know that and if they hit anything, they are soooooo liable. Better to be
safe than sorry. They asked me to put string out and somehow mark where they are
to check in case I am not home. I figured school bus yellow yarn and a hand
painted sign ought to do the trick.
My
cabbages, broccolis, cauliflower and brussels sprouts are coming up rather
nicely in the indoor greenhouse.
My tomatoes and peppers are slowly germinating, but then again they always take time and like bottom heat, which I am not giving them.
News of the weird.... I was contacted by one of my friends in Canada last night and he told me that my former farm was just raided last week as it was a major Grow Op. The people who bought it from me, sold it again and this man had my former farm and another house in the area. The police busted him big time. My poor former house!! The people who bought it from me had a dream of living off the land, but probably bit off more than they could chew and found the farm too much for them as they had never owned any land before.
