Yesterday and to be finished today, the carpet and linoleum was ripped out of the house. I was surprised at the inch deep sand/dirt under the carpets. UGH. No wonder I do not like shoes worn in the house. Yikes!

I like ripping up flooring in a way as it shows a history. There was the different eras of this hundred year old home showing the 1930's lino, the 1950's lino, the orange 1970's shag carpet remnants, and then the more 'modern' grey carpet on top of everything.

Got the front room, living room and stairway ripped up yesterday. Today I will  buy 1/4" plywood to lay on the kitchen & pantry floors. Also finished ripping up the carpet and pad from the upstairs bedrooms. That will be fun to squash downstairs. All the carpet is being cut into manageable size however, then rolled and duct taped. It felt good to be working on it. I called the flooring guy and he said to go ahead and leave the nail strips alongside the walls. Whew! I tried to take a couple out and they are like handling a porcupine.

The family room downstairs smelled/looked like old oil when I was ripping up that flooring and it seems someone was using that room to rebuild engines at some point in time.

The only bad thing which happened yesterday was the shop vac blew the filter off and since my back was to the machine, I didn't notice the dust cloud until I started to sneeze my head off. Good thing it was a nice day and I tossed all the downstairs windows open.
