oday
is Boxing Day in Canada and the UK. I think it is mostly for going and visiting
the friends and family that you did not get to for the last few days. It is also
my boyfriends grandmother's birthday, so we went to her and her husbands home
this morning for cake and coffee.
We have been having problems getting over there for the last several months. The last time we were going to go visit them, we had 7 ton of hay on the trailer behind the truck and we were not sure we could make it back up their hill if we got down there. So we have delayed and delayed. His grandmother has told me she had a crock for me... and it has taken months to get there, but today we did. I had forgotten about the crock until we were leaving. Then I saw it...
It is gorgeous.. and it is not one.. they are two, plus a book on root cellaring she had had for years. I knew the crock were pretty old by looking at them and then I was quite horrified she wanted to give them to me, when I asked how old they were. His grandmother told me they were her husband's mother's sauerkraut crocks (my boyfriend's great-grandmother's). I am so glad I asked however, as this is a wonderful piece of family history we now own in this household.
