eet Steve. Steve is magnificent. Why is Steve magnificent you ask? Well... because he is the only one who could accomplish the impossible! He is the one ...(with the possibly dubious help of "Kid") ..who accomplished what no one else could. He built the root cellar door for us! Steve is a master artist. carpenter and shipwright. So I gave him my excuse for tools and lumber and he set to work, looking as happy as a clam. Then he hand carved door handles for the front and back. Just in time as it snowed again and went down to at least -8C.

Steve is the father of one of my new friends from Washington State and a reader of the magazine. They came up for four days to visit and they will be coming back for a sled dog event in January.

It was a delightful visit and we exchanged alot of organic idea and foods. The house feels too quiet again with them gone. I look forward to their return.

Snow is on the ground and it has not been above freezing all day. Winter has come. Though it was not that cold by our standard coldness up here, the wind made it brutal. We hauled some of our round bales home from where they are stored at under cover and tossed one in the round pen for the horses and one on our side of the fence for the cow to dole out to her each day.

Tomorrow I have to finish chinking the root cellar.
