September 2, 2006
am so mad at myself. I
had been out of bed a few times earlier.. phone rang.. bathroom ect and then the
final time I go to get up for the day, I went to roll over and I pulled the
muscle down the side of my neck and back of the shoulder. I could not move my
head.. I could not roll over.. MAN did it hurt.. it still hurts an hour and a
half later. But today is the big push to get the last 12 logs up and start on
the roof of the root cellar.. and two of us have the same type of muscle issue,
only the "Teenager's" was from football/log lifting. I have no such
excuse unless my muscles knotted up overnight from me peeling all by myself
yesterday. We are going to be worthless!!
I could not put my hair up into its normal workday ponytail and so I made just
over the shoulder ponytail as I walked up to the woodshed to check to see if we
had any baby bunnies.. NOTHING! Oh well.. maybe tonight. I did test her and toss
her in with the buck for a moment and she was snorting and whining.. so maybe
she is bred. Hopefully tonight.
We are getting low on meat, but I want to use it almost completely up before we
order/butcher more to fill the freezers with. So I am starting to use cuts of
meat that A.) do not work overly well for our family, B.) No one actually knows
what to do with these particular cuts.. so I am going to have to get inventive.
Front shoulder pork roasts.. we need about 4 packages for one meal here.
It is a bright and sunny day.. a total contrast to yesterdays weather. It is
still a wee bit chilly this morning an I have a sweater and socks on. Even
"Kid" who distains shoes and socks most of the summer is now wearing
both shoes and socks as of the last 2 mornings. Must be Fall...
Evening Update
ot
12 more logs cut and brought out from the back 40 to lay next to the root
cellar. Tomorrow is the big push to get the walls all up and the roof done. I
found a vent for the roof with a cap and need to scrounge for a inlet pipe. Told
the guys of my plan for a roofline, handforged door with wooden planks from our
trees. I have my coal already in wait. I have been wanting to fire up my forge
for a couple months now.
